Echoes of Utopia: designing for humanity
Designing with AI is about rethinking accessibility, inclusivity, and social responsibility in every project. It opens doors for designers to address social issues, reach and include underrepresented individuals and communities with innovative solutions.
However, designers must remain mindful of AI’s role in reinforcing or challenging societal biases, as this technology leaves a lasting imprint on how we live and interact.
How will AI ultimately influence the human experience? Which is the true role it should play in society, to allow everyone to truly participate and feel included?
WORKSHOP
“Echoes of Utopia: Designing for Humanity” invites participants to reimagine accessibility in K12 education through both philosophical and practical lenses. In this workshop, we’ll examine how accessibility shapes the quality of life for each individual, focusing specifically on its crucial role in educational publishing where equal learning opportunities must be guaranteed for all students.
Working alongside industry leaders, including educational publishers and innovative startups, participants will craft a manifesto for accessibility in educational publishing. This foundational document will then guide the development of an AI-powered tool designed to analyze and create inherently accessible educational content. This hands-on workshop bridges the gap between theoretical understanding and practical implementation, challenging participants to envision and build tools that ensure educational materials are accessible by design. Together, we’ll explore how emerging technologies can be harnessed to create more inclusive educational experiences, setting new standards for accessibility in the digital age.
TEAM LEADERS
Davide and Michela are digital innovation experts in education. As President and Project Manager at Libre, they lead a team developing high-traffic educational platforms and digital content for major italian publishers. Their recent work focuses on AI-powered features and processes in educational materials, combining universal design principles with emerging technologies to create more inclusive learning experiences.
RESULTS
Accessibility and design are key in creating inclusive digital environments. In our workshop, we explored how accessibility principles intersect with artificial intelligence, focusing on AI’s role in improving design.
We gathered data, identified our target audience, understood the challenges, and found solutions.
We condensed our findings into nine main points: customisation, equity, universal design, belonging, communication, assistance, digitalisation, multimedia, and multisensoriality.
These guide future innovations in making digital spaces accessible for everyone.
