A protected listening space for students beginning their university journey
Thanks to the collaboration between IAAD. and the IBTG Association – Scuola Gestalt di Torino, first-year students have access to a listening desk run by psychologists from the Gestalt School of Turin, aimed at offering support in relation to doubts, requests or difficulties that may emerge during their academic journey. The first year of university is a period of major change — a new city, a new study method, new relationships, and the first real experiences of independence. It is also the phase in which anxiety, doubts about the choice of course, adaptation difficulties, or simply the need for a space in which to pause and reflect may arise. For this reason, the listening desk is designed as a free, protected and non-judgmental space for dialogue: a place where a psychologist welcomes your questions without evaluating them, prescribing a pathway, or requiring any mediation.
Four sessions with a psychologist
Interested students may take part free of charge in the Assaggi di Gestalt project, making use of a cycle of 4 one-hour meetings during which they can speak with a psychologist in a protected and non-judgmental listening space.
The listening desk is active during the academic year, unless otherwise indicated.
Appointments are arranged directly between the student and the Gestalt School, without any mediation by IAAD. and with the utmost confidentiality: no personal data is shared with the Institute, and no information that emerges during the meetings is in any way fed back into the academic pathway. Meetings may take place online or in person at the Gestalt School’s premises at Via Po 14, Turin.
For further information about the Gestalt School and the Assaggi di Gestalt programme, students can consult the project’s official website, the dedicated Instagram profile and the explanatory video produced by Scuola Gestalt.
Developing relational and creative skills
In addition to the listening desk, IAAD. students have the opportunity to take part, over the course of the three-year programme, in extra-curricular seminars aimed at fostering the development of their relational and creative skills. These are training moments that complement the study plan and are designed to support the student’s personal growth beyond the technical skills of design and communication: feedback management, group dynamics, active listening, mindful communication, creativity as a relational practice. These are abilities that, in the professional world of today’s designer and communicator, matter just as much as mastery of software.
Starting university often coincides with the first real transition into adult life. The context changes, the study method changes, the assessment system changes, and sometimes the city or even the country changes too. It is not unusual for even small signs of emotional strain to emerge during this transition — signs that deserve a space in which to be heard.
A university listening desk is not a therapeutic pathway and does not replace clinical support. Rather, it is a first point of welcome: a place where students can speak with a professional about their experience, understand together the nature of what they are going through, and, if necessary, be guided towards any appropriate next steps. There are many legitimate situations in which it makes sense to contact a university listening desk: difficulty adapting to a new study pace, exam and review anxiety, doubts about the choice of course, conflicts with classmates or flatmates, moments of loneliness or homesickness, difficulty managing criticism and feedback, or family situations affecting academic life. The principle behind the listening space offered by IAAD. with the Gestalt School of Turin is simple: no question is too small to bring.
The listening desk is aimed at students enrolled in the first year of IAAD. undergraduate courses. The Assaggi di Gestalt project is designed to support the transition into university life.

No. The listening desk is a space for dialogue and support, not a clinical or therapeutic pathway. If the need for further support emerges during the meetings, the psychologist from the Gestalt School will guide the student towards the most suitable next step.
They are training moments that complement the study plan, organised over the three years of the programme and dedicated to the development of relational and creative skills (feedback management, group dynamics, active listening, mindful communication, creativity as a relational practice).
