New worlds, old stories: AI and cultural expression
Generative AI has the power to create designs that incorporate, blend and amplify local aesthetics and global cultural influences, producing something that transcend borders, creating globalised yet personalised visual languages, new realms of shared meaning. This tech-driven shift risks homogenising art and oversimplifying or misrepresenting cultural richness. How can designers use AI to celebrate diverse traditions without diluting them?
How will AI transform culture creation, representation and fruition?
WORKSHOP
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is profoundly transforming culture and society, influencing art, media, and ethics. Its relationship with culture is dynamic and constantly evolving, helping shape the future of society. From a futuristic concept, AI has become an integral part of daily life, capable of revolutionizing industries and redefining social norms. Its cultural impact is significant, affecting how we perceive ourselves, interact with technology, and build identities.
In 2027, on the fiftieth anniversary of the Voyager spacecraft, COPUOS launches a call to create a new support, using AI to store information about humanity, intended for extraterrestrial life or future generations. The workshop will teach participants how to use AI applications for design, writing, graphic creation, image generation, video, music composition, and voice synthesis. Participants will create a new witness of the human species, using AI to represent human and cultural diversity in various formats.

RESULTS
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing creativity and communication, raising questions about its cultural impact. The workshop “New Worlds, Old Stories: AI and Cultural Expression”, organized by IAAD., involved 16 students in a learning experience on the use of AI for research and cultural production.
Structured in six phases, the program alternated between theory and practice, from an introduction to AI principles to the creation of multimedia content. Special attention was given to the selection of cultural elements to question AI. The workshop provided valuable skills for both beginners and experts, preparing participants for the challenges and opportunities of AI.
