IAAD.’s location in Turin, within in a vast repurposed area that was home to a power plant at the end of the 19th century, is the result of a collaboration between public and private entities.
Thanks to an agreement among the City of Turin, Lavazza and IAAD., in 2012 the architects Cino Zucchi and Cristiano Picco carried out an expansive project to enhance, reuse and repurpose the Aurora district, a few steps from the city center, where the new Lavazza Business Center (also known as Nuvola) is located. The work involved the transformation of a large area of the city, not only in terms of urban planning but also from a socio-economic and cultural perspective.
Within this large public space, IAAD. is situated in a historic industrial building on the corner of via Bologna and via Pisa, a few steps from the Dora Riparia river and the Royal Gardens. The building has 3,000 square meters available for classes, exhibitions, conferences and workshops.
To improve the livability of the IAAD. community’s outdoor spaces, a pedestrian area was created between via Bologna and via Ancona, with green areas, low-consumption lighting systems and free Wi-Fi, thus becoming the city’s first “smart street.”
In response to its growth since 2018, IADD. has added 1,500 square meters of classrooms, laboratories and study areas within walking distance of the main office.
IAAD. has a significant connection to its surrounding community, made up of leading industrial companies that succeeded in making Made in Italy famous throughout the world.
Within this highly dynamic, innovative economic and cultural context, IAAD. is well-placed to provide training to create a new generation of designers who offer fresh interpretations of the great tradition of Italian style.
