IAAD. Library and Materials Library

To support study, research and design activities, IAAD. provides students with an integrated system of library, periodicals archive, materials library and design archives, conceived to accompany every phase of the academic journey.

IAAD. Teche was created as a HUB dedicated to consultation, in-depth study and research in the worlds of design, communication, fashion and contemporary culture. Students can access physical and digital materials useful for the development of projects, theses, workshops and laboratory activities.

The service includes:

• an in-house library and periodicals archive with almost 1,000 volumes and more than 3,000 specialist magazines;
• a design library containing a selection of the best research projects and theses developed by IAAD. students in recent years;
• the Material ConneXion digital materials library, dedicated to innovative and sustainable materials;
• a fabric library with a textile sample archive available for consultation on campus;
• agreements with libraries, archives and cultural institutions both locally and nationally.

Students can access the documentation through personal laptops connected to the IAAD. Wi-Fi network or remotely through dedicated credentials.

The IAAD. library is a space for consultation and interdisciplinary research dedicated to contemporary design.

The catalogue includes:

• books on design, architecture, fashion, art and communication;
• international specialist magazines;
• academic publications and exhibition catalogues;
• materials dedicated to trends, innovation and visual culture.

Alongside the library there is also a periodicals archive containing thousands of sector magazines useful for research activities, trend analysis and project development.

The design library preserves a selection of the most significant projects developed by IAAD. students, offering a consultable archive of concepts, theses and design experimentation.

MATERIALS LIBRARY AND INNOVATIVE MATERIALS

The Material ConneXion digital materials library

IAAD. gives its students and lecturers access to the Material ConneXion digital materials library, one of the leading international networks dedicated to innovative materials and sustainable production processes.

The platform makes it possible to consult:

• innovative materials;
• contemporary production technologies;
• sustainable solutions for design and architecture;
• international databases dedicated to materials research.

Students may also access, by appointment, the physical Materially materials library of Material ConneXion in Milan, exploring samples, textures and materials for design projects first-hand.

The materials library is a key tool for students in:

• interior design;
• product design;
• transportation design;
• textile and fashion design;
• communication and exhibition design.

FABRIC LIBRARY AND MATERIALS RESEARCH

Textile archive and design experimentation

IAAD. also hosts a fabric library, a space dedicated to the consultation of textile samples and materials for design.

Students can use the archive for:

• materials research;
• texture study;
• concept development;
• fashion and interior design;
• laboratory activities and workshops.

The fabric library supports design pathways by encouraging a practical and experimental approach to material design.

How access to the library and materials library works

IAAD. students can access the services:

• on campus;
• through the IAAD. Wi-Fi connection;
• remotely with personal credentials.

Digital consultation makes it possible to use the library and databases outside the Institute as well, facilitating research, study and project development.

For some specialist resources, such as the physical Materially materials library, access can be booked by appointment.
