The Alias Career is the administrative procedure through which IAAD. recognises for trans, transgender students and for those who do not identify with their biological gender the possibility of being addressed by their chosen name throughout academic life, in full respect of the individual’s privacy and dignity.
Through the IAAD. Alias Career, the Institution guarantees to transsexual and transgender students, and to those who do not identify with their biological gender and prefer to identify with their chosen gender in all aspects of their educational experience at the Institution, the possibility of living in a serene environment attentive to the protection of privacy and to every person’s right to be recognised in their chosen gender, thereby fostering interpersonal relationships grounded in fairness and mutual respect for individual freedom and inviolability. In practice, the Alias Career makes it possible to use, in everyday academic contexts — registers, communications, assignments, classroom interactions — a chosen name different from the one appearing in the Institute’s official records. It is a concrete tool of inclusion and protection that IAAD. makes available to all students.
The Alias Career Regulation aims to eliminate situations of discomfort and forms of discrimination linked to sex, sexual orientation and gender identity. To this end, the Regulation governs the administrative procedure that makes it possible to acquire an alias identity — that is, to use a chosen name different from the one recorded in IAAD.’s official registry — by assigning the interested person a provisional, transitional and non-consolidable identity: the so-called Alias Career.
Three fundamental principles inspire the Regulation: Continuity of the educational pathway. The alias identity accompanies the student consistently throughout the entire study path, without creating misalignments in everyday communication.
The procedure for activating the Alias Career is described in detail in the official Regulation. In summary, the process includes:
Submission of the request. The interested student submits a written request to activate the Alias Career to the IAAD. Academic Office, indicating the chosen name they wish to use.
Signing of the agreement. Once the request has been accepted, a confidential document is signed, governing the use of the chosen name in academic contexts and formalising the confidential handling of personal data.
Activation of the alias identity. The Office updates the internal systems (register, communications, teaching materials) so that all contexts not bound by legal validity requirements refer to the chosen name.
Revision and revocation. The alias identity is transitional and non-consolidable. It may be modified or revoked at any time, following the procedure indicated in the Regulation. Note. The official identity document, legally valid certificates (diploma, statements, exam minutes, communications to authorities) must necessarily remain in the student’s legal name. All other contexts — class registers, academic emails, badge, internal lists, daily communications — may refer to the chosen name.
The activation of an Alias Career entails IAAD.’s commitment to ensuring that information relating to the gender identity of the persons concerned is handled with the utmost confidentiality, in accordance with current legislation on the protection of personal data.
On a relational level, the existence of the Regulation also has a cultural meaning: it makes explicit that IAAD. considers diversity in gender identity and sexual orientation to be part of its community, and acts concretely so that all members of the community can take part in the educational pathway without having to endure situations of discomfort or forms of discrimination.
Three protections that the Regulation guarantees in daily practice:
Active protection against discrimination. Conduct contrary to respect for the recognised identity — including by classmates or third parties — is subject to intervention by the Institution, according to the relevant internal procedures.
The Alias Career is an administrative procedure that allows trans, transgender students or students who do not identify with their biological gender to use a chosen name, different from their legal name, in all contexts of IAAD. academic life that do not legally require the official name.
It is intended for transsexual and transgender students and for those who do not identify with their biological gender and wish to be recognised in their chosen gender throughout their educational experience at IAAD.
No. The legal name remains mandatory in all documents with legal value (diploma, certificates, exam minutes, communications to public bodies). The chosen name is instead used in all teaching and relational contexts of academic life.
The request must be submitted in writing to the IAAD. Academic Office, according to the procedures described in the Alias Career Regulation. It is recommended to read the Regulation before submitting the request.
Yes. Data relating to the Alias Career is processed in compliance with personal data protection legislation. Only staff strictly necessary for the administrative management of the service may access the information linking legal name and chosen name.
No. The alias identity is transitional and non-consolidable: it may be modified or revoked at any time during the course of study by following the procedure indicated in the Regulation.
The Alias Career activation procedure does not require medical documentation. It is designed to be accessible to all students who fall within the conditions described in the Regulation, without the need to prove any ongoing or initiated clinical pathway.
The correct application of the Alias Career is part of the commitments of IAAD. lecturers and staff. Conduct contrary to respect for the chosen identity can be reported to the Academic Office, which will activate the internal procedures provided to protect the individual.
