Context Overview

In a complex and constantly evolving field like communication, a designer’s approach is able to identify the many opportunities the sector offers. Thanks to multidisciplinary training, the communication designer can synthesize humanities-based theory with technical and scientific knowledge. The goal is to manage a communication project end-to-end with a new sensitivity—focused on inclusivity and sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

Over the three-year programme, students gain broad-based training in communication, spanning the areas that increasingly interact today: from advertising in the strict sense (major campaigns, TV commercials, etc.) to graphic design, branding, web, marketing and mobile applications.

The first year is dedicated to making. Courses designed to help students master the key software in the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) sit alongside modules introducing the fundamentals of advertising, graphic design and social media marketing—rounded out by more theoretical pathways on creativity, strategy and history.

The second year focuses on experimentation and deeper exploration, with particular attention to design, research and creativity. Students develop skills and a working method that—through analysis of today’s media landscape—enable them to create complex, structured communication projects (branding, advertising, publishing, exhibit design), deepening both the visual and strategic identity of a brand.

The final year is all about concreteness. The hands-on and design capabilities built in previous years find their full meaning in the reality of agencies and companies, which IAAD. brings into the learning path through thesis projects, workshops and internships.

The outcome is a new generation of professionals who are context-aware and curious, able to enter the workplace with a solid foundation.
