Reference field

The mobility design field is constantly evolving and has an important economic impact worldwide.

The consideration for the environment and the growing request for personalized transportation offer new opportunities for mobility designers. In the field of mobility design there’s a growing concern for the environment. Automotive manufacturers are adopting more and more eco-friendly solutions like electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles.

The objective is to reduce the environmental impact and promoting circular economy, from beginning to end of life of vehicles. These changes have created more job opportunities in the mobility design sector. Moreover, the market is influenced by trends and consumers’ lifestyle. Consumers want means of transportation to reflect their personality, their social status, and their aesthetic preferences. All this led to the creation of personalised vehicles both in their interior and exterior design, along with digital services and a focused user experience to satisfy an increasingly demanding customer base.

Why is IAAD. different from other Mobility Design Masters?

The best way to become a professional in Transportation Design is by being trained to learn from experts in the field. Thanks to this insight, IAAD. is the first Italian school of higher education specializing in Transportation Design.

More than 40 years of experience in the field of Transportation, the Institution’s research assets in the field of Mobility, and experience in the development of innovative mobility solutions in cooperation with leading partner companies all come together in the Master’s programme.

The design work carried out in collaboration between IAAD. and partner companies allows students to put into practice what they study in an environment very similar to what they will encounter in the professional field.

This system also allows students to simulate working conditions in a professional context: working with precise deadlines, correcting work in progress following customer feedback, working in teams and objectives. The Master is based on an idea of Walter De Silva, a master of Transportation Design who signed the evolution of the major brands of the VW group between 2007 and 2015.

Ideal student of the Master in Design for Mobility Solutions

Both Preliminary and Master’s programmes are intended for graduates in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, UX/UI Design, Generative Design, Architecture, Automotive Engineering and related subjects, and those candidates who matured significant professional experience in the transportation, urban planning, environmental and sustainable sciences fields.

In particular:

Design Graduates – students with a background in design, transportation design or related design fields can pursue the Master to specialize in designing mobility solutions.

CGI Artists – through the Master’s programme they can apply their skills in creating realistic 3D renderings, animations, and virtual simulations to the automotive field, for design, communication, and user testing phases.

Proficiency in CGI software is advantageous for digital prototyping, virtual design reviews, and human-machine interaction design. Including CGI art in the curriculum prepares students for the digital landscape in the mobility industry.

UX/UI Design graduates and professionals – thanks to the Master’s programme they will be able to apply their competences to create intuitive interfaces in mobility design. Proficiency in UI/UX tools and research methods is beneficial for creating user-friendly solutions. Including UI/UX design in the curriculum provides a holistic understanding of the design process for mobility solutions.

Start date: March 2024
Duration: 9 months

Course Overview

Now more than ever we feel the urgency of imagining unprecedented educational programming to prepare for professions in the field of communication that are appropriate to the world we inhabit, a world undergoing historic transformations that on one hand force us to reposition ourselves and on the other open up new opportunities and new tools (consider, for example, what happens in the field of information, starting with media such as newspapers, television, podcasts, and ending with new ways of fruition).

There is nothing new under the sun. Still, needs change and the rules of the game change. Faced with a demand for the professional skills needed to meet new challenges, as high-level training institutions we offer educational and cultural responses centered on the training of professionals who are able to interpret and develop these new trends.

In tracing the changes in modern communication (usually defined as from the early 1900s to the present), it becomes clear how the context (politics, sociology, scientific and technical discoveries, conflicts, etc.) has directed its course.

The spread of Fordism and the concept of mass production helped to establish graphic design as a universal language, making use of tools such as branding, brand identity (Peter Behrens and AEG, for example) and infographics (such as the tube or Isotype system) and pointing to graphic designers as priests of a new world. Modernization and mass consumption brought advertisers to the forefront, opening the field to the future digitalization and fragmentation of media and tools, to computer scientists, strategists and content creators.

And today?

The emerging figure is a professional who can move with agility throughout the different worlds of communication, who is able to master languages that differ from each other, such as word and image, borrowing from each to create new narratives. This person will be capable of taking on the creative direction of a communication project, from below the line to ADV, from publishing to political communication, from seriality to new digital channels.

Master’s programme

The goal of the Master’s programme is to enhance the participants’ creative process, to add that missing part exactly as if learning a new language.

In this way, a visual designer will complement his or her skills with the power of the word (written or spoken), and a storyteller will gain the power of images.

Held together by the common thread of storytelling, the course includes three defined areas and a series of cross-curricular workshops, the FUORIPISTAs.

The Master’s teaching methodology is defined by teaching moments, always project-based in nature, with presentations and reviews with faculty and colleagues given particular didactic relevance.

Each module consists of:

  • Lessons
  • Lectures
  • FUORIPISTA workshops
  • The Perfections – collective presentations and reviews

MODULES:

  • WRITING
    • Fiction Writing.  A course on the foundations of writing techniques for short stories and novels.
    • Copywriting. The other side of writing, broadly understood as focusing on describing and discussing products.
    • Screenwriting. This course will help you discover the mechanisms, rules and secrets of film writing to turn a plot into a script. It complements the course on writing, training writers to be 360° storytellers.
  • THE ORAL NARRATIVE
    • Orality & Pitching. From the basics of speaking aloud to public speaking, with a focus on constructing and exhibiting briefs and, in general, expressing one’s creative ideas in front of an audience.
The course will conclude with a focus on pitching techniques: a hands-on workshop in which students will practice pitching a project in a few minutes in a preparatory workshop preceding the final presentation of their work in front of companies.
  • THE VISUAL NARRATIVE
    • Perception. A course that will lead students to investigate our relationship with images, from the physical, neurological and biological reactions they elicit to the weight of cultural, social and historical context.
    • Composition. How are images constructed? What is the relationship between technique and intuition? Is it possible to decode an individual’s creative process? How do you build that room of wonders that contains and expands your visual heritage? And finally: how do you respond to the needs of the client and the type of audience?
    • Use. How are images used? Graphics, photography, video and illustrations, for example, are visual elements that modify and determine the narrative according to the environment in which they are used, which can be more traditional (fashion, food, publishing) or new digital frontiers (memes, TikTok, AI).
The goal of this Master’s programme is to lead students to harness the potential of images and to identify the stylistic features of different fields to be able to integrate, reinterpret and rename them depending on the type of storytelling required.
  • FUORIPISTA
Four fleeting forays to deconstruct what we think we know in order to look at it from a new point of view.
    • Wonders. Training in amazement and estrangement by looking with new eyes at the already seen, through the discovery and exploration of creative worlds we thought we knew, be it Renaissance art or pop culture.
    • Vacillations. The precariousness of the world we inhabit in these times is disorienting. There are few certainties, many pitfalls and a myriad of possibilities. We will learn a dynamic balance that allows us to treasure these shocks to our systems.
    • Pressure. A hands-on workshop to save your skin in every situation. The workshop is a continuation of the FUORIPISTA dedicated to Instability. It will consist of surprise activities in which students will find themselves in “crisis” situations to be solved in the shortest possible time.
    • Gymnasium. Gymnasium. Readings, viewings, visits, travels, discoveries and explorations that include books, movies, series, comics, stores, museums and everything else you can look at. Stimuli to broaden one’s cultural background and enrich it with new insights that might become useful for one’s craft.

COURSE DELIVERY, ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION

The instructional approach of the Master’s programme is characterized by face-to-face lectures and workshops with compulsory attendance. Active class participation and the timely fulfillment of all assignments are required. In addition, students must develop a final project that will be evaluated by the committee in the examination period.

Classes will be held at Scuola Holden and IAAD.

During the academic year, Scuola Holden and IAAD. may organize educational visits to companies, exhibitions and museums, special workshops, and meetings with relevant professionals.

COMMUNICATION DESIGN
BRANDING Communication

Campus:

Start Date:

COMING SOON

Duration:

Affirming that the craft of communicating is constantly evolving is not a cliché. As an example, if the structure of an advertising agency of a few years ago could be compared with a current one, as well as the professional figures and the type of work produced, the difference would be striking. Evolution is not only continuous, but so rapid that it is sometimes confusing.

THE course in detail

Start date: Coming soon
Duration: 2 years
Language: Italian
Campus: Turin and Bologna

Educational Objectives

The proliferation of touchpoints and channels with which the public can be reached today is exponential. It is a context that offers countless opportunities to those who have the tools to face it. But at the same time, the skills for those who want to deal with communication multiply and tend to escape traditional classifications. Precisely for these reasons, if updating is necessary in this professional path, so is in-depth analysis. The IAAD. project of the 2° Level Academic diploma course in Communication Design has exactly this double goal: on the one hand, to strengthen the technical knowledge relating to the most current expressive methods, especially in the digital field; while on the other hand, further develop the themes that make up the set of fundamental principles.

To ensure the achievement of these objectives and the maximum effectiveness of the program, also in terms of professional opportunities, IAAD. has chosen to give a precise orientation to its two-year post-graduate program, placing the theme of brand management and communication at the center. The relationship between brand, users, society, and communication channels is a complex and multifaceted territory that requires a variety of approaches. Communicating and managing the image of a brand today is an activity that goes far beyond the narrow commercial logic, although the latter cannot be excluded. Brands in the current context can no longer limit themselves to the simple role of “communicators of themselves”, subject and at the same time object of their messages, both commercial and institutional.

Today, brands are at the center of an equal relationship with their reference world, a two-way communication much closer to the interpersonal one than to the obsolete one that used to go from the company to the public. And as happens in relationships between people, the effectiveness of the information exchange requires listening skills, sensitivity, correct choice of expressive methods, as well as awareness of the cultural and social background of those who are dealing with the brand. It is a communication that has the obligation to take into account the deep connections, including emotional ones, that bind people to brands, considered as an integral part of our daily life and with which, whether we like it or not, we are establishing relationships that are often beyond the relationship between product and user, to cross over instead into the field of affectivity.

This type of communication, increasingly used by brands, requires the ability to manage multiple and often multidisciplinary languages. For instance, the creation of the event is combined with video production, the competition with the social media publishing plan, the charity initiative with publishing activity. According to IAAD., it is a field that deserves and needs specific training, a subject that includes all the modalities and at the same time clarifies its boundaries
