Despite it’s relatively recent discovery, photography has gone through different evolutions changing itself and the world around it. On one side, it has helped us to better understand the many manifestations of reality. On the other side, photography has unhinged our certainties to reveal a metaphysical inner world.
With the advent of digital photography, the photographer’s work- from pioneering alchemy in its infancy, to advanced computing today – has undergone a process of democratization that has broadened the basic skill base and raised the level of expectation at the top. To be an exceptional professional photographer today not only requires having technical expertise at shooting and printing but also a broader awareness of the entire creative and production processes. Familiarity with all technological aspects (shooting, editing, post production, presentation, distribution), the different areas and related parties involved are not enough to meet the market’s needs. Creativity and content design are the difference between the role of a person who merely does the work and of a potential creative director. A holistic approach is therefore essential to establish oneself as a leading professional in the industry.
MASTER COURSE’S OBJECTIVES
The main purpose of the Master’s Module is to develop a new generation of professionals who are able to imagine, design, build and spread their vision with all the necessary tools to deal with the fluidity of the market. More experienced photographers are hired not only as technical experts, but as real creative directors. In this light, it is clear that a multi-disciplinary approach is the main goal. The ability to understand and control the different aspects of a production. Likewise, the main objective of the course is to develop the creative professional who is able to express their vision while being in line with the needs of the customer, thus resolving the dichotomy between the artist and the technical expert.
The Master’s focuses on the strengthening and expansion of creative skills, combining a solid technical foundation and extensive development of the expressive skills, in a reality-based approach. Students are provided with all the necessary tools to develop their own personal vision and to channel it effectively an increasingly competitive market. In the Master’s, theoretical and practical applications will run parallel and synthesis is crucial.
Pietro Birindelli – Coordinator
Pietro Birindelli is a fashion and beauty photographer and videographer. He trained alongside Mario Testino and today is a partner in “R&D”, one of the leading post production houses in the world of fashion photography. His success is based on having in-depth knowledge of both the artistic and photographic elements and the technology involved. He is based in London, where he works and resides and his portfolio of clients include global brands such as Burberry, Gucci, Michael Kors, Lancome, Massimo Dutti, Esprit, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Etro. His publications include Wonderland, Haarper’s Bazaar, IoDonna and Anna in Italy. Through “R&D”, Pietro Birindelli works with all the most prestigious brands including magazines such as Vanity Fair, and all the international publications of Vogue and V Magazine.

In the Master program students will work on specific creative projects, in order to define and develop their own vision by implementing positioning strategies in the visual communication market. In the Master program students will have unique opportunities to interact with prominent experts from the world of communication through intensive workshops.
Each edition of the course includes the development of a thesis project in collaboration with a company or a referenced organization.
The project starts from the first briefing with the client and then with subsequent meetings to present the intermediary developments and discuss them the representatives of the partner companies involved until the final discussion of the thesis.
Candidates who are highly motivated, already have an understanding of photographic equipment and their own vision but are keen to increase critical awareness of themselves and knowledge of photographic tools, may access the Master program.
Access to the course is possible only with the approval of the Co-ordinators of the course based on the evaluation of academic qualicafifitions, professional curriculum and portfolio.

The Master Coordinator, assisted by an academic board will evaluate the candidacies received.
IAAD reserves the right to ask the candidate, when deemed necessary, an additional interview at the head office or via Skype. The result of the application will be communicated by the Career Guidance Office to each candidate.
IAAD offers 5 scholarships to be assigned to candidates according to curriculum and portfolio evaluation.
The available scholarships are:

Scholarships will be awarded with merit criteria from a board selected from the Direction and from the Master Program Coordinator.

Candidates who pass pre-selection will be invited for an interview at the head office or via Skype. In case of tied candidates, IAAD can decide to divide the assigned scholarship.
