Bologna hosts the inauguration of FICO Eataly World, the world’s largest agro-food park, and IAAD could not fail to leave its mark on such an extraordinary project. The students of the Department of Interior Design have been involved in the design of the new Fontanafredda reception areas, designing more than 1,500 square meters of space that will host the famous winery, a symbol of Italian enogastronomic excellence.
FICO (Fabbrica Italiana Contadina) Eataly World has as its objective that of becoming the reference structure for agro-food divulgation and knowledge, a meeting place for those who love food and who want to share in its secrets and traditions. A space of 80,000 square meters overall; hosting 7,300 m2 of restaurants, 4,000 m2 of congress center, 9,000 m2 of shops and markets, 7,000 m2 of crops and 4,000 m2 of stables, with a total of over 2,000 companies involved and present on site. More than 6 million visitors are expected in the first year, including 4 million tourists.
The project developed by IAAD’s students requires the creation of new Fontanafredda spaces within Eataly World. This area must host a point of sale as well as spaces for narration and education. A place of emotions, capable of triggering sensations and new ideas, one that gives visitors an understanding and experience of how the products shown rise from a raw material to reach their final form.
The areas under study are:
• “Bottaia 52“: a wine cellar containing 52 barriques – 225-liter barrels – each corresponding to a week of the year. The space is dedicated to hosting weekly events built around the rite of opening barriques that will involve the company owning the product.
• “Passaggio emozionale al dehors“; a transitional space connecting the inside of the structure and the dehors, a dedicated wine garden.
• “100 vini e spuntini”: a space dedicated to selling more than 100 wines by the glass. A requirement is the possibility of alternating the products displayed while maintaining equal visibility among them.
• “Bottega del Vino“: a space dedicated to the retailing of more than 2,000 bottled wines. Particular attention is dedicated to the exhibition area overlooking the “decumano”, one of the main passages of FICO and a primary Fontanafredda showcase.
